Take a little break from the news and join Themes & Variations to welcome the arrival of summer in the company of some of our favourite contemporary artists and designers. Colour, textures, faux-realism, mastery of craft…. and more colour.
Among the artists whose work will be presented, Anna Barlow will tempt you with her luscious, sculptural confections. Indulge in ice-cream and cake as artworks while contemplating their disorder and subtext. We have selected animals from Benedetta Mori-Ubaldini’s fantasy menagerie, a guaranteed-to-make-you-smile new cars assemblage by Laurence Poole, a transformative mirror by Mark Brazier-Jones and portraits from Luke Stephenson’s Incomplete Dictionary of Birds to complement a collection of late 19th/early 20thC handmade copper fish from the Venice.
Designer-makers refresh signature techniques: McCollinBryan’s modern and distinctive Terrazzo Coffee Bean incorporates tumbled Carrara stone and in Paola Paronetto’s hands a a surface of corrugated paper is turned into colour-saturated clay vessels and sculptures.
Niamh Barry’s ‘Artist’s Hand IV’ is a gesture on paper realised as a fluid sweep of light in her signature hand-forged bronze.
The mood is upbeat, the palette playful and the exhibits tempting.
We look forward to seeing you!
